PRESCHOOL

An Independent school for independent minds

At Rising Star Academy we focus on the learning development of each individual child. At the Preschool level, they are transitioning from an independent and ego stage to a more self-aware and coherent stage, which is why we are using developmentally appropriate Frog Street curriculum.

This curriculum is adopted by KATY ISD in their Pre-Kindergarten program, as well as in 316 school districts in Texas; the same curriculum in our preschool program will establish a base for the students for their ongoing academic education. Our teachers utilize activities to enhance the curriculum to increase the children’s brain functions, cognitive development, social and emotional development, and their Language and Literacy development. Through the curriculum and enhancements, children will be able to recognize their numbers, letters, sounds, and work on writing sight words.

Science/STEAM

3-year-olds are inquisitive all the time and inquisitive minds ask why. Here at Rising Star Academy, we help your child discover the “whys” on their own. Through experiments and teacher-guided hands-on activities, we foster your child’s imagination and give them the tools to investigate and figure out the changing world around them.  We do science experiments with them in our Science room; we expose them to simple concepts of science. We teach them about our universe, our planet, plants, and our ecosystem. In our science room, we keep models of the human body, models of different aircrafts, cars, trucks, and trains.

Mathematics

Your child will work on improving important math skills such as counting, graphing, sorting, and patterning. We incorporate these math concepts into our weekly themes which disguise these learning opportunities as play. For instance, your child may be building a tower and then be asked to count the number of blocks used. The main focus in our preschool classes is having the children identify differences and similarities within a group of objects. Once they have these concepts down, they will be able to apply these to more advanced math techniques when they move to Pre-K.

Language Arts & Literacy

Children at this level are starting to recognize that words are symbols that have different meanings. To aid in this, we create print-rich environments in all of our classrooms. It is widely believed that creating a print-rich environment is the foundation for literacy development in children. At every turn in the classroom, the students are surrounded by print. This helps the children relate words to objects and concepts. Another way we build vocabulary is through story time. Reading is a large part of our curriculum because it introduces the children to new words and concepts.

Self Help Skills

We encourage children at Rising Star to build self–esteem and awareness for themselves and others through classroom responsibility. Part of this process is building a healthy independence and to accomplish this, we incorporate logical thinking and problem-solving. In order to be independent, one must think for themselves.

Social and Emotional development

At Rising Star Academy, we develop your child’s character, make them emotionally stronger by teaching them different traits of character such as honesty, integrity, responsibility, compassion, and forming long lasting friendships with other children.
