EARLY PRESCHOOL
An Independent school for independent minds

Language Arts & Literacy
At Rising Star Academy, we focus on growing your child’s vocabulary and language comprehension skills. We create ample opportunities for your 2-year-old to practice language and communication skills. Stimulating songs, chants, and finger play build auditory skills. We also offer French, Spanish, and some Sign Language as a large part of our curriculum. Introducing a new language builds neural pathways essential to brain development. Our teachers also read to the children every day, which promotes the proper handling of books, and exposes them to a language-rich environment.
Math & Science Skills
We focus on helping your child count, recognize patterns, and discover how our world works. We teach your 2-year-old basic math and science through hands-on activities that build their natural curiosity about the world. At Rising Star, your child will work on recognizing shapes, colors, numbers, and letters – the foundation of all math and science skills.

Social & Emotional Development
At Rising Star, we understand your 2-year-old. It is imperative at this time in their development that they receive positive attention and are in a classroom with healthy and consistent boundaries. At this age, children will test boundaries on a continual basis. At Rising Star, they begin to learn appropriate social behaviors and interactions with both their peers and caregivers. We acknowledge their frustrations, get down on their level when we talk to them, and offer redirection and positive reinforcement when they are frustrated. We also work on basic self-help skills so that they begin to build a healthy independence from parents and caregivers.
Fine & Gross Motor Skills
Our teachers guide your 2-year-old through activities designed to help refine physical skills that utilize their small and large muscle groups. We fill our classrooms with manipulatives that encourage grasping, pinching, and reaching – all of which help strengthen hand muscles that will later be used to hold writing utensils. We also encourage big movements like jumping, climbing, and balancing, by creating safe, fun, explorative environments.

Potty Training
One of the biggest milestones for two-year-olds is mastering toilet training. Because many of the children entrusted to our care are in the age range where this skill is being learned, we want parents to know that we’re their potty-training partners. Success in toilet training hinges on physical, developmental, and behavioral milestones. In addition to hitting the necessary milestones, consistency is key when teaching a child something new. Just as reading stories every night helps create a dependable bedtime ritual, being consistent with toilet training helps breed success. Our teachers and staff will support your efforts and maintain consistency with your child’s training so that you can rest assured that the hard work you do at home doesn’t go to waste.
Parent Communication
We work hard to develop relationships with our families. Open communication is our priority, including detailed daily reports and an open door policy.
